There are 2 downfalls/challenges to the game. 1)The hard tracks. They are really hard and you may find yourself thinking they are crazy if they reckon you should be able to do it. But, it always works out and you will feel excellent for doing what no one else figured out. 2)The violence. The blood is not often seen and in comparison to most games today it is not a lot. But, the crashes are often expansive and can leave your drivers falling long distances, hitting a lot of objects, being blown up, etc. and all while often making painful (I believe they are supposed to be comical) sounds. This is really up to the parent/individual to choose if this is appropriate.

All-in-all, this game is a blast! It is just ancient fashioned gamer fun. Side scrolling at it’s best. Hope this helps and I hope that you delight in this game and have all the laughs my family and friends have had playing trials.

The levels are filled with checkpoints so you never feel like you are forced to replay a lot of what you already did. Also, you can respawn with the press of a button, so you can have quick, repeated attempts on the tough obstacles. Sadly, I feel like the harder levels get rid of what makes this game fun! The most fun I had was racing down the track, flipping. The excellent parts feel nearly like a roller coaster. The hard levels get rid of this feeling; instead you spend a long time trying to get over a crate.

Here’s the thing. I’m 35. I don’t have time to play games the way I used to in my youth. I play lots of games on the Simple and Normal setting because I just want to delight in myself and experience the storyline. I don’t like being frustrated. I don’t like beating my head against the wall trying to get through hard parts in games. I just like seeing all the levels and having fun. I like getting achievements, but I generally give up if they are too hard. My philosophy generally is that there are too many excellent games out there for me to waste my time being frustrated and miserable while I struggle on the higher difficulty levels.

This game has changed me. It makes you want to keep trying. It makes you proud of yourself for pursuing perfection. I can’t count the hours I’ve spent playing this game but I’ve heard some of the top players have logged over 150 hours in the game. It starts out simple but becomes incredibly challenging. The subtlety in the controls will really impress you when you’ve place enough time in to appreciate them.

This is also a fantastic game to play with friends over. It is fun to watch and fun to hand the controller back and forth with friends. The many crashes and explosions are always amusing and never get ancient.

The only annoying thing about the game is that you can only share tracks you make in the incredible track editor with people on your friends list. You can’t share your levels with strangers and you can’t download tracks from strangers. I don’t know if this was a choice by the developer to ensure they controlled the tracks or if Microsoft prevented them from letting us download free tracks. Either way, it was a VERY Terrible choice. Anyone who has played Small Huge Planet on the PS3 knows that there are thousands of incredible, FREE levels made by other users. Here’s hoping this is fixed in a future update or expansion pack.

Regardless of this one issue, there is more than enough content in the game to make this game worth every penny and more. Once you start playing this, you’ll be on YouTube, watching videos on how to master each track and shave a few more seconds off your time. The game becomes punishingly hard and I’m not sure I will EVER pass all of the Extreme levels, but the game really does have that magic factor that keeps you coming back.
